Is in-office liposuction better than traditional liposuction?

“There are several advantages,” Dr. Randy Birken said, founder of Birken Medical Aesthetics.  “First, there’s no general anesthesia, making the procedure safe.  And secondly, the surgeon can do more fat sculpturing since the patient can turn and even stand, exposing areas of fat that may be missed when the patient is sleep.”

Liposuction is usually done under a general anesthetic. But some physicians perform the procedure with laser and while the patient is awake in an office setting.

“By using the tumescent anesthetic technique, the patient is awake and recovers quicker, ” Dr. Randy Birken, a board certified physician said.  “Not only is it an easier procedure on the patient, but we can sculpture the fat better by having the patient turn and even standup.”

Dr. Birken uses laser to help improve healing and skin tightening.
